Shocking news was recently released from a major clinical trial of more than 16,000 women.  Just five years into the trial, which was originally planned to run for eight-and-a-half years, the women were told to stop taking hormone medication, after tests revealed that the six million American women currently taking the drugs might be at risk.

To the surprise and disappointment of researchers and women all over the world, new data showed that the commonly prescribed combination drug containing estrogen and progesterone may cause more harm than good.

Researchers were stunned to find the therapy did not decrease the risk of coronary heart disease, as was anticipated. In fact, women in the treatment group saw their risk of heart attack increased by 29 percent. Hormone replacement therapy also increased a woman's risk of invasive breast cancer by 26 percent; strokes by 41 percent; and blood clots by 100 percent.

The results of the trial started by the Women's Health Initiative were published in the July 17 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Lead investigators recommended that, "... clinicians stop prescribing this combination for long-term use."

How did it come to be that one of the most commonly prescribed drugs in the country was used for decades in so many millions of women before its long-term effects were ever studied systematically?" questioned Dr. Jerry Avorn, associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and chief of pharmaco-epidemiology at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. "This is an example of a big gap in U.S. health care and science policy regarding prescription drugs. If you are a company and can demonstrate that your drug works well for some short-term outcome in this case, it was the hot flashes of the menopause - that drug can then come to be used ... for indications that really have nothing to do with the basis on which it was originally approved," Dr. Avorn told ABC News.

"There seems to be ample marketing dollars to encourage use of such drugs, but it took years to raise the research dollars needed to find out if they actually work and are safe," Dr. Avorn averred.

The meticulous short-term studies required by FDA are good, but they offer little knowledge in relation to the long-term effects of the best test of all: time. Although expensive and more difficult to perform, the WHI results show how necessary these trials are.

Estrogen Dominance/Progesterone Deficiency

Depending on the degree of the progesterone deficiency, estrogen dominance may manifest itself with one or more of the following hyper effects:

• Allergy symptoms, Breast cancer, Breast tenderness, Cold hands and feet, Decreased sex drive, Mood swings, Dry eyes, Depression, anxiety, irritability, Fatigue, Fibrocystic breasts, Increase risk of strokes, Irregular menstrual periods, Headaches, Hypoglycemia, Insomnia, Slow metabolism, Infertility, PMS, Zinc deficiency, Osteoporosis, Uterine fibroids, Uterine cancer, Water retention, bloating, Weight gain, Hair loss, Acceleration of the aging process, Fat gain - around hips & thighs, Polycystic ovaries, Endometrial cancer, Memory loss, foggy thinking, Thyroid dysfunction, Magnesium deficiency, Gallbladder disease, Unstable blood sugar, Cervical dysplasia, Infertility and Prostate cancer.

Many of these symptoms and conditions commonly occur in women of all ages. They may be common, but they are not normal. These symptoms are an indication of declining ovarian function, which leads to an inevitable deterioration in health as women age. In order for women to obtain and maintain health and wellness as they age, it is essential that they preserve female hormonal balance as soon as the presence of  symptoms occur.

Not just the uterus, but every cell in a woman’s body has receptors for and is influenced by the estrogen hormones, progesterone and testosterone hormones. Most importantly the sex hormones affect the brain, stimulating the production of neurotransmitters, neuro-chemicals and neuro-hormones, which enable a woman to think clearly and have elevated moods. When the sex hormones decline, become imbalanced or are no longer produced, brain function deteriorates, manifested by a decrease in mental sharpness, inability to focus, poor short term memory, “brain fog”, mood swings, irritability, depression and anxiety. This is why it is so important to provide women with a professional grade natural progesterone supplementation, when indicated for premenstrual symptoms and progesterone replacement after menopause. Although progesterone and estrogen are the two dominant hormones that women produce, it is important to remember that women also produce small doses of testosterone. For women, the production of testosterone peaks at ovulation in order to stimulate a woman’s desire for sexual relations.

Testosterone Effects in Women

Relieves panic or anxiety attacks, Gives a sense of well being, Decreases body fat and cholesterol, Increases and enhances libido, Increases muscle tone in the body such as bladder, heart, bone mass, Enhances cognitive thinking and math ability, Converts inactive thyroid  T4  to active thyroid T3.

Contrary to popular opinion, researchers make it very clear that menopause does not mean an absolute end to estrogen production. Two other parts of the body besides the ovaries produce estrogen: the adrenal glands and the fat tissue. These, say author Sharon Gleason, "will maintain low levels of estrogens to minimize symptoms."

Dr. John Lee states that a sign of estrogen dominance is weight gain caused by both water retention and fat deposition at hips and thighs. This is an interesting point, because he had found that many women wonder why they are gaining weight even though they are exercising and on a strict diet. One of his neighbors thought she had gained weight, because she had given up smoking. At the same time, however, her doctor had put her on estrogen therapy for her menopausal problems, informing her (albeit incorrectly) that this hormone would be good for bone growth and make her feel a lot better. After talking to her, Dr. Lee finally determined that her accumulation of a middle aged spread could very well stem from the dual effect of her synthetic estrogen (prescribed alone) and the rapid drop in progesterone levels that accompanies menopause.

Another case is highlighted in The Menopause Industry, by Sandra Coney. A woman was prescribed Premarin for her joint problems and pelvic inflammation, she began to put on weight "at an alarming rate" and was then switched to different forms of estrogen, including Estraderm patches and implants. The results were unfortunate, she had a 35 lb weight gain, fluid retention and breast discomfort.

It is my opinion that Dr. Lee and others make a great deal of logical sense regarding how imbalanced hormone's will create fat deposits within the body along with improper diets.  The reader must also understand by changing the diet and balancing the hormones will not necessarily eliminate the pre existing fat cells within the body. Those fat cells are surrounded and protected by fibrin, which can not be eliminated by hormone therapy that he is aware of.

I would like to explain some additional facts you may not BE AWARE OF;

Now by taken natural progesterone, you can help balance those nasty producing estrogen rich fat cells.  Will taking natural progesterone make you loose all the fat on your body and inside the organs?  No, but it will help in the future. There is one other thing that you need to do to help keep that fat off of your body in the future. That is DHEA, which the peak in production in the human body is around the age twenty and declines rapidly and markedly after the age of 25.

So, there are two  keys to preventing body fat in the future and get rid of those nasty love handles around the abdomen that you didn't have when you were a child.

Not only is estrogen running wild in your body in production, but men and women also get it from outside the body in the form of Pesticides, Petroleum products, Plastics, Hormones OCP & HRT), From poultry industry and steroid and antibiotics in animal feed.

Just about everyone adds inches round their middle as they get older, and some scientists have linked this to lessened production of the adrenal hormone DHEA. In the journal of the American Medical Association title; Effect of DHEA on Abdominal Fat and Insulin Action in Elderly Women and Men. The conclusion of the article was replacement of DHEA could play a role in prevention and treatment of the metabolic syndrome associated with abdominal obesity.

For the ladies and men who are now in the menopause stage of life, like my wife, should use the progesterone for twenty-five days in a month and then stop for five days, just like a normal menstrual cycle. Then  repeat it again every month thereafter for twenty-five days.

Remember it may take some time, but the results should be worth it. In another section of your Longevity life policy, I will tell you what I think is the key to loosing your current estrogen rich fat cells.
