People Who Should Avoid Vitamin D

If you have sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, or lymphoma it would be best for you to avoid vitamin D supplementation based on this test. It is recommended that you have Vitamin D blood tests, before you supplement with any sun exposure or oral vitamin D.

What problems come from a Vitamin D deficiency

Vitamin D, A Gene-Regulating Super Nutrient

Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to various cancers, cardiovascular health, bone health, depression, and autoimmune diseases. Find out if you are at risk. A simple blood-spot test can help you to determine if you have adequate levels of this critical vitamin. For testing call 1-816-350-1770 in Independence Missouri or 1-660-463-1400 in Concordia, Missouri to schedule an appointment.

Drug Interactions

The following medications increase the metabolism of vitamin D and may decrease serum 25(OH)D levels: phenytoin (Dilantin), fosphenytoin (Cerebyx), phenobarbital (Luminal), carbamazepine (Tegretol), and rifampin (Rimactane). The following medications should not be taken at the same time as vitamin D because they can decrease the intestinal absorption of vitamin D: cholestyramine (Questran), colestipol (Colestid), orlistat (Xenical), mineral oil, and the fat substitute Olestra. The oral anti-fungal medication, ketoconazole, inhibits the 25(OH)D3-1-hydroxylase enzyme and has been found to reduce serum levels of 1,25(OH)D in healthy men. The induction of hypercalcemia by toxic levels of vitamin D may precipitate cardiac arrhythmia in patients on digitalis (Digoxin).

The Truth about Taking A Multi Vitamin Supplement

Need a tax form for medical expenses?

The following is a written presentation for those who are hearing impaired

Children around the world grow up in different environments and they all eat differently.  Some have three normal meals a day while others may only have one meal a day.  The majority of these children are not sick, regardless of what they eat or where they live. It's interesting that the majority of children in America don't take vitamins supplements and yet it appears they all do fine, so one can only conclude that they get enough vitamins from their food regardless of their economic backgrounds.  Yet  adults are told that they need additional vitamin supplements.

Now let's look at what I call The Good, The Bad and The Ugly regarding vitamins facts. Vitamins release energy from our food and help build muscles, bones, blood and other vital tissues. Vitamins are called co-enzymes.

The retail sellers and manufactures of vitamins tell the consumer that the government minimal daily requirements of vitamins is to low and you need to take more.

Do you really believe that your government is wanting to make you unhealthy?

What the government is trying to tell you is these amounts are required to maintain a good supply of vitamins to fuel the body on a daily basis, Period.

If you include fifty percent of fresh fruits and vegetables as part of your daily meals, you should be getting all the vitamins you need in your diet.  Don't buy into the hype that the quality of foods grown today has no nutritional value; they are simply lying to you.

Fruit and Vegetable Intake Reduce Stroke Risk

October 6, 1999 Reuters News reports on a story in the Journal of the American Medical Association on the benefits of fruits and vegetables.  The study conducted at Harvard’s  School of Public Health studied the relationship between fruit and vegetable intake and the rate of stroke in over 75,000 women.  The results clearly showed a decrease in stroke risk in those who had an increase in intake in the number of servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

But, if you can't or just don't want to eat what the government now recommends of 7 to 13 servings of fruits and vegetables per day or at least the minimal five (5) servings per day, you do need to take a vitamin/mineral supplement daily.  If you get your vegetables and fruits out of a can, or eat nothing but fast foods and process foods for almost all meal, you also need to consider taking a daily supplement to reach those requirements. If you feel you need a vitamin supplement, I would highly recommend Phyto nutrients, a better alternative then taking a vitamin supplement.

A significant part of the nutritional industry is nothing more than the old snake oil peddlers of the 19th century, who sold cures from the back of their horse drawn wagons. Today though they dress up their products with fancy labels, use media hype, TV glitz, testimonials from glamorous muscular men and fetching females, all of whom swear by the products. The shopping mall nutrition store salesman, becomes the source of health knowledge and instantly knows which products to recommend to the consumer for just about every ill you can think of.

The same can be said about multi-media sales that function like a pyramid club. For some inexplicable reason, a friend, neighbor or family member becomes an expert on nutrition and health and, oh, by the way, you can get all of those health benefits through the products he or she sells. And, of course, you, too, can become a distributor, sell to your friends, and make money besides.

When you look at vitamin supplement  labels one thing is totally clear, that none of the formulas are the same.  Only God knows the right formula and he put them into the foods of the earth.  My wife is 64 and I'm 59 years old, and we don't take any multi-vitamins supplement and we are doing fine.

In the past I treated patients with vitamins and supplements and it appeared in many cases to help, but it never really resolved any major health problems they had. Some people swear by their vitamin supplements, but they still get sick .I found when recommending herb formulas for detox and cleansing that they were very effective.

My question to you is, why do you as an adult need to take a vitamin supplement, when as a child you didn't?

So don't waste your money on taking vitamins expecting to cure diseases or protect  yourself from getting sick.  It just won't  work.

Remember eat well and grow strong.  Doc T
